There’s nothing better than real-life examples to illustrate what passion in action really means. For proof, consider the following two:
Recently, a UPS driver was delivering the gift of a child’s toy to a house on his route during the holiday season. For whatever reason, that toy wasn’t in a traditional UPS brown box—instead, it was in its original box with the toy’s name, photos and manufacturer branding. As a result, anyone who saw the box – including potentially the intended recipient – could see exactly what was inside. So, what did the driver do? Rather than leaving the box by the front door in plain sight of everyone, he took it around to the side of the house and hid it behind a garbage can. He then affixed a message to the front door indicating where the box was located. By doing this, he ensured that when the family arrived home and the child was in tow, he/she wouldn’t be able to see what the toy was.
In a related example, a FedEx driver was delivering packages on his route when he came upon a front porch with an outdoor couch on it. On that couch were two pillows—one with the U.S. flag’s white union stars on a blue background, and the other with the flag’s red and white stripes. Only problem was, the pillows were arranged in reverse order; in other words, the pillow with the stars was misplaced on the right, and the one with the stripes was misplaced on the left. Feeling a strong sense of patriotism, this driver flipped the pillows so that they were aligned correctly relative to each other and represented an accurate depiction of the American flag.
These examples highlight passion in action. You can’t teach that; it’s inside of you, and it drives your actions big and small.
